Jim Cutler joined Moffitt Associates
in mid 1995 following a successful career as a line operations executive. He has extensive Lean Manufacturing training
and specific experience directing its implementation in operations under his management over the past several years.
Prior to joining Moffitt Associates Jim served as Vice President - Manufacturing for Jacobsen Textron, a leading
designer and manufacturer of turf maintenance equipment. Before joining Jacobsen he served as Vice President -
Operations for The Qualitrol Corporation, a Danaher Company. While associated with Qualitrol he directed their
full implementation of the Danaher Business System, modeled after the Toyota Production System. He was part of
a group of key executives who executed a very unique corporate-wide initiative designed to spread continuous improvement
activity at all subsidiary companies.
At Qualitrol Jim launched the Concurrent Engineering product development process and the Quality Function Deployment
activity. During this period he developed and delivered several training programs in lean disciplines such as Team
Development, 5S Workplace Organization techniques, and Visual Management systems and authored several of the manuals
now in use throughout the Corporation. He participated in several study missions to Japan and, like all Moffitt
Associates consultants, learned the Just-In-Time and Lean Manufacturing methodology from former Toyota executives
who were among the creators of the process.
Jim spent six years of his early career at General Motors, AC Rochester where he held several key line operations
posts, including a senior product line manager position where he implemented a Total Quality Management process
using Deming continuous improvement techniques in a large parts manufacturing plant.
In addition Jim was a marketing analyst with Cameron Iron Works and also spent four years at Stone and Webster
Engineering Corporation, serving in various mechanical engineering roles in nuclear facility construction.
Jim holds a BSME from Clarkson University where he was a Presidential Scholar and elected to Tau Beta Pi and Pi
Tau Sigma engineering honor fraternities. He earned his Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School
of the University of Pennsylvania where he majored in Marketing and General Management.
Jim serves as the Managing Partner of Moffitt Associates , LLC and operates his consulting practice from his office
in Lake Forest, Illinois where he resides with his wife and two daughters.
