Mark Hamel joined Moffitt Associates in May
of 2004 following a successful 19 year career that encompassed executive and senior operations roles, strategic
planning and business development, JIT promo office management and controllership. His lean education and experience
began in the early 1990’s when he conceptualized and helped launch what resulted in a 2002 Shingo award winning
effort at the Ensign-Bickford Company (EBCo).
Mark was most recently the Vice President of Operations at Amgraph Packaging, Inc., a medium sized flexible packaging
manufacturer. Prior to Amgraph, he served in a number of roles at Ensign-Bickford Industries (EBI) and subsidiaries,
including:
- Director of Strategic Planning,
EBI
- Acting COO, Applied Food Biotechnologies
- Product Center Director/Manufacturing
Director, EBCo Aerospace & Defense
- Kaizen Manager/Director of Continuous
Improvement, EBCo
- Controller, Ensign-Bickford Optics

Before coming to EBI, Mark was a manager at Arthur Andersen & Co. with a predominately manufacturing client-base.
As EBCo’s Kaizen Manager, Mark was mentored by Moffitt Associate’s Bob Pentland for 2 years. While in that position,
he prepared and conducted numerous lean related training activities and facilitated over 50 kaizen events as well
as a number of strategy deployment workshops in multiple plant locations. He is especially cognizant of JIT promo
office success criteria and the needs of those within that critical position.
Subsequent to that experience he has successfully applied lean in both line operations and executive support roles.
Areas of focus and approach include: strategy development and deployment, change management and organizational
design and development (including teaming) in addition to the more traditional Toyota Production System (TPS) tools
of standard work, 5S/visual controls, SMED, TPM, kanban, etc.
Mark holds a BS in Mathematics from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and a MS in Professional Accounting from the
University of Hartford where he graduated with honors. He is a CPA in the state of Connecticut and is dual APICS
certified in production and inventory management (CPIM) and integrated resource management (CIRM).
Mark operates his consulting practice from his office in Avon, CT where he resides with his wife and three children.
